Larry Ferguson is going to the Philippines

December 16, 2008

One of ministry friends here at Church of the Heartland is Larry Ferguson.  Larry is the director of Church Encouragement Services which helps struggling churches find new vision and grow again.  He is on his way to the Philippines (in the asian pacific) for a mission trip and here is the really cool update.

My wife Cathie and I received an invitation to the Philippines to present Church Encouragement Seminars in three cities at three different Seminaries. We met the United States Ambassador to the Philippines and she invited us to stay at the US Embassy in Manila for the five days we will be in that city. A toal of over 500 are preregistered for the seminars. The plan is for church leaders to take this information back to their home churches to encourage them as they duplicate this 14 hour presentation. If this goes well in Northern Philippines, we have been invited to go back in a year and do the same thing at three Seminaries in the South part of the country. This country is made up of over 7,500 islands and is predominantly Catholic. Please put us in your prayers. We leave Chicago the 27th of January and come back the 18th of February.”   Larry Ferguson – Director of Church Encouragement Services.

Lazarus’ Cow

December 15, 2008

Pastor Gary Leary has been on a personal mission.  He has wanted to buy a couple of cows for one of our pastors in Uganda named Lazarus.  You see, to get married in Uganda you have to pay your new father-in-law with cows.  Yup, livestock.

Well our eligible ministry bachelor friend now has cows thanks to Gary raising the needed money.  It wasn’t all that much, but to our brother Lazarus this was a mountain that he would have been unable to climb all alone.  Below is the message we just recieved from Uganda…

“”This is Lazarus, who you may not be knowing. But I do appreciate the support you gave me.
This was God in you. God used you like resecu 911 to my introducation.
All was good and I was given the wife  traditionally and my wedding will be January, 24th’09.
Again thanks to all love and support. Bless.”

I love the way God is working through each of you.
